Description
Summary:Barium hexaferrite type M (BaFe12O19) is a hard ferromagnetic ceramic material characterized by its high coercivity, strong magnetocrystalline anisotropy, and chemical stability. It is fundamental in the fabrication of permanent magnets, magnetic data storage media (tapes and disks), microwave components, and drug delivery systems. It is also used as a photocatalyst and heavy metal adsorbent. Its properties are closely related to its microstructure and morphology, and particle size reduction offers advantages for most applications. To this end, the synthesis of BaFe12O19 nanoparticles was studied in this work using the Pechini method under low-pH controlled conditions (pH=1) and under different heat treatment conditions. The powders were characterized using XRD, SEM, EDX, VSM and FTIR techniques. The results showed the production of a nanometric powder with average sizes of 22 nm, and with high magnetic values characteristic of a ferromagnetic material.
