Sumario: | Ingestion of carbohydrates in the diet of many teleosts results in protracted postprandial hyperglycemia and an increase in the deposition of glycogen and lipids (1-3). The goal of several current studies was to further refine our understanding of the metabolic use and adaptation to exogenous dietary carbohydrate in cultured rainbow trout. In one experiment, we assessed growth performance over a 10 week feeding trial along with post-prandial plasma glucose profiles, gene expression and enzyme activities to determine whether acclimation to a carbohydrate-rich diet is a consequence of size/age, or a result of transcriptional modulation or glucose sensing. |
