Sumario:It has been estimated that 10-15% of cultured aquatic organisms are lost because of infectious diseases. The motile Aeromonads, bacterial pathogens of fish, are an example. Two proteins implicated in Aeromonas veronii adhesion to epithelial cells were identified. Fish immunized with DNA vaccines, which decode for these adhesions, registered higher sur- vival levels and less histopathological signs follow- ing A. veronii infection. This research expands the knowledge concerning bacterial adhesion mecha- nisms, and established the potential of DNA vac- cines for the control of bacterial infections in cul- tured fish.
