“…Por esta razón, el tamaño fetal en el extremo inferior de las tablas de crecimiento, por debajo del percentil 3 para las tablas de crecimiento establecidas, puede usarse como un criterio aislado para definir restricción de crecimiento fetal en cualquier edad gestacional. (1) Se estima que la prevalencia real de la restricción del crecimiento intrauterino es entre el 3% y el 10% de los embarazos, lo que convierte a esta patología en un problema obstétrico frecuentes, junto al parto prematuro y la ruptura prematura de membranas. (3) La principal causa de la restricción del crecimiento fetal es la insuficiencia placentaria lo cual describe la reducción del transporte de oxígeno y nutrientes al feto con efectos adversos en el desarrollo fetal. …”
