Adequately Defining the Amino Acid Requirements of Fish: The Case Example of Lysine por P. Bureau, Dominique, M. Encarnação, Pedro

    Publicado 2019
“…Studies suggest thatexpressing lysine requirement as a function of digestible energy or protein contents of the diet is not appropriate.Studies have also indicated that “newer” approaches of estimating amino acid requirements (e.g., factorial aminoacid requirement, ideal protein concept), widely used in poultry and swine nutrition, may have significant pitfallswhen used in fish nutrition.…”

Vitamin K, Much More than Blood Clotting: Roles, Metabolism and Specific Requirements. A Mini-Review. por Fernández, Ignacio, Gavaia, Paulo

    Publicado 2015
“…As a co-factor of the enzyme γ-glutamyl carboxylase which performs the conversion of Glu into Gla residues in VK-dependent proteins (VKDPs), through which VK is controlling blood clotting, representing the most widely recognized function of VK. VK also participates in transcriptional regulation, acting as ligand for the steroid xenobiotic receptor or pregnane X receptor (PXR), which is mostly known as a master regulator of xenobiotic metabolism. …”

    Publicado 2017
“…Currently there are only two medicines to treat this disease: beznidazol and nifurtimox, both effective if they are administrated in the acute phase of infection, although their effectiveness fades away in the chronic phase; it also induces significant side effects. The aim of this study is to screen the trypanocidal activity of methanolic extracts from Hematoxilum brasiletto, Marrubium vulgare, Schinus molle, and Cympongon citratus, against T. cruzi epimastigotes, followed by the chromatographic separation, and identification of active compounds of the best candidate by colored chemical reactions; furthermore, it was also determined their cytotoxic effect in human lymphocytes and the brine shrimp Artemia salina. …”

Naturally-occurring stable isotopes as direct measures of larval feeding efficiency, nutrient incorporation and turnover por Le Vay, Lewis, Gamboa Delgado, Julián

    Publicado 2011
“…Stable isotopes are non-hazardous markers that have been widely-used in assessing energy flow within aquatic ecosystems. Hatchery systems are also highly amenable to this approach, as they represent controlled mesocosms with a limited number of food sources and short planktonic food chains with rapid and measurable bioaccumulation of the heavier stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen at each trophic step. …”
