Evaluación de diversidad, distribución e importancia económica de la familia Agavaceae en el Noreste de México por Cabral Cordero, Ismael

“…En este escrito se presentan resultados sobre el inventario de la diversidad, distribución geográfica y estimación de la importancia económica de las Agavaceae en cada uno de los estados del Noreste de México; los resultados muestran que la actualización en sistemática y conocimiento de los taxa que conforman la familia arroja un incremento del 8% para Coahuila, un 40% para Nuevo León y el 42% en Tamaulipas, al compararla con información publicada antes del año 2005; de la construcción y análisis de bases de datos se definieron áreas y patrones de distribución con mayor probabilidades de éxito como estrategia de conservación filogeográfica a diferente escala, integrando las bases de datos con registros de taxa respaldados con al menos un ejemplar preservado en un herbario indexado internacionalmente, en este sentido se incluyeron los datos generados sobre las 58 especies y 6 géneros distribuidos en los estados del NE de México; la descripción de una nueva especie de Agave, considerada como el taxa más ancestral del género y una rama filogenética relicto a nivel familia; la estimación económica y de aprovechamiento de las Agaváceas reveló el manejo de gran variedad de materiales y productos, como satisfactor de necesidades diarias, de bajo costo y alta disponibilidad regional; fue posible comprobar son pocos los procesos de industrialización, abriéndose un área de oportunidad muy amplia para incorporar al sector productivo y económico, con mejores opciones de empleo y bienestar, a los habitantes de comunidades rurales del Noreste de México. …”
