“…Además, se construyó un índice de bienestar material para los hogares receptores y para su contraparte, a partir de tres dimensiones: características de la vivienda, servicios públicos de la vivienda y tenencia de bienes.Entre los principales hallazgos, se puede mencionar que: a) las remesas contribuyen a mejorar la calidad de vida de los hogares, al mitigar sus necesidades básicas, pero noaportan al bienestar de la familia a largo plazo; b) los hogares transnacionales además de utilizar los ingresos para el consumo inmediato, se preocupan por mejorar su calidad devida: invierten, aunque sea poco, en educación y salud; c) la migración es una estrategia familiar “orientada no tanto a obtener el máximo posible de ingresos, sino a diversificar susfuentes, con el fin de reducir los riesgos como el desempleo o la pérdida de ingresos” (Arango, 2000, p. 12). Así se evita la precariedad y el hambre en los hogares; d) los ingresos de los hogares receptores en Cali tienen un papel importante en la sustentabilidad del hogar, al invertirse en el desarrollo de capacidades, como la educación, que permitirá, en un futuro, menos dependencia económica de las remesas.…”
