Numerososestudios señalan la etapa adolescente como aquella de mayor riesgo en el inicio delconsumo de alcohol y tabaco, oscilando la edad e indicando que si se principia en estehábito a una edad temprana aumenta el riesgo de convertirse en un bebedor yfumador regular, desarrollando dependencia y sufrir consecuencias a largo plazoderivadas de esta conducta. La presente investigación examina la prevalencia defumadores y bebedores de alcohol, y se compara el grado de conocimiento de99 adolescentes preuniversitarios con inclinación al área de la salud e ingeniería conrespecto a los daños a la salud por consumo de alcohol y tabaco y su percepción sobrela imagen social por consumo de estos, en Monterrey, N.L. (México). Encontrándoseque la edad de inicio y la intensificación para adquirir el hábito de fumar y beberalcohol enlos estudiantes adolescentes preuniversitarios, al margen de su inclinaciónde estudios, comienza tempranamente y aumenta acentuándose con la edad, con unaprevalencia de 5 y 7 estudiantes por cada 10 a la edad de 15 años y más. Así mismose aprecia que no existe diferencia en la incidencia de estudiantes que fuman eingieren alcohol, no obstante la inclinación de un grupo por los aspectos educativos dela salud. Por otra parte, se ha podido comprobar, que no existe diferencia significativaen el conocimiento del daño a la salud por el consumo de alcohol y tabaco; por lo cualno se puede considerar como un factor protector el tener una propensión de educacióncircunscrita a la salud.AbstractThe consumption of alcohol and tobacco is a remarkable social problem, and it is thatthere is a modification in the use pattern and in the class of the consumers. Numerousstudies point out the adolescent stage as that of more risk in the beginning of theconsumption of alcohol and tobacco, oscillating the age and indicating that if it isbegun in this habit to an early age the risk it increases. The present investigationexamines the incidence of smokers and drinkers of alcohol, and the degree of 99adolescents' of superior half education knowledge is compared with inclination to thearea of the health and engineering with regard to the damages to the health forconsumption of alcohol and tobacco and its perception on the social image forconsumption of these, in Monterrey, N.L. (Mexico). being that the beginning age andthe escalation to acquire the habit of to smoke and to drink alcohol begin to an earlyage and it increases being accentuated with the age, with an incidence of 5 and 7students for each 10 to the 15 year-old age and more. Likewise it is appreciated thatdifference doesn't exist in the incidence of students that you/they smoke and theyingest alcohol, nevertheless the inclination of a group for the educational aspects ofthe health.
